Is it just me or do any of y’all have the issue of an over-imaginative brain? Like, I’ll be writing for whatever story is most important at the moment, and I come up with an idea I want to add in, but it doesn’t really go with the story. When it doesn’t go that well with the story, I make a note and set it aside, only to ponder on the scene idea, hence coming up with an entire story idea.
That has happened for… 95% of the novels I have planned. I kid you not, only 5% of them were from me sitting down and thinking ‘what would make a good book plot?’. All the others were from random inspiration of other books I’m writing.
Sometimes, so many ideas are a good thing. It keeps creative juices flowing and I get really excited about my writing career. But other times, I get sooo excited about one story plot, focus on that like crazy for a week or two, then the excitement dies down. After that, I kinda don’t write for a bit, then go back to my original story I was working on.
You’d never guess how many times I’d call T.C. or text her saying ‘guess who has a new story idea?...’. She would always groan and roll her eyes, asking how I keep coming up with everything and why I don’t just stick with one idea. For a while, my overactive brain was actually an issue because I couldn’t focus on writing one story at a time. If I felt like writing a scene for one story, then jumping around and writing a page for five other stories, that’s what I would do.
It wasn’t as terrible as it seems, because I always had something to do if one of the scenes in my book was going nowhere and I was incredibly bored. On the downside, I never progressed much with any of my stories. Once I realized I wanted to form a career with writing, I forced myself to focus on one story at a time, only switching over to another if I was at a total dead end. Thankfully, after setting my mind to it, the only time I had to switch over was when I wrote book politics.
Shudders at the thought.
The one thing in writing that I absolutely DESPISEis writing politics for stories. Just to write a page of book politics, it can take me around two weeks. My mind basically shuts down and refuses to function when it comes to politics. We already have so many actual-world problems with politics that my mind refuses to have to create issues. While I may enjoy making my characters scramble around to try and save their hides, I’m not so cruel as to make them deal with deep politics.
Also, I don’t want to make myself despise my characters for getting into a deep political mess I have to solve. I mean, admit it, book characters have a mind of their own. You want them to act a certain way and then all of a sudden you are sitting there, staring at your screen like ‘what just happened?’ That has happened too many times to count, and sometimes I feel like some of my characters are spiteful to me. One time, I forgot to add in a princess of the spring season for a story I was writing, and oh my gosh do I regret that. When I realized I forgot her, I immediately went back and added her in, giving her a few extra speaking cues to make up for leaving her out.
Worst. Mistake.EVER.
That character got revenge on me big time. She went from being this princess who was a bit more prominent than the others to a total whirlwind. One moment she was happily smiling in a huge pink gown, and the next she was trying to break up my main characters. The princess became a real sassy pain in the neck who didn’t care what she did. I still don’t know how that happened. She just kinda came to life like ‘you wanna leave me out? Watch me and suffer, sucker.’ It was truly something terrifying to behold.
On a happier note, I was inspired to draw a picture of one of my book characters the other day! Now, I never really use my computer to draw, so I don’t know how well my picture turned out, but I think I did a decent job. I hope you like it!
Ciao for now, and see you on the writing side!
Prince Paxikaar
So here is my first attempt at drawing Prince Paxikaar, the main male character of my novel, Elven Cursed. As you can tell, he is an Elf.
The black lines are a little rough, but I'm still working on my digital art skills. Hopefully I can re-draw him once I get better, and he'll look a million times better.
