Heyo Readers! A.G. Silver back again with part two of behind the scenes! This time I will be talking about the more creative, fun, design aspects of running a blog, as well as some useful add-ons you can use.
For the first thing, we have an email list which is run through a separate provider in our case. Some website builders allow you to create an email list on the same platform, but not all do. For Silver Arc, we use Mailchimp, which allows us to set up a subscriber page which then sends all our posts to your inbox, should that be the most convenient way for you to get our weekly posts. All you need to do is set up a free account with them, which allows for up to 2,000 subscribers, and boom, you can send emails to your subscribers!
Next up is my favorite part, creating little header images for your posts. This is obviously not required and can be done in numerous ways. For Silver Arc, I use Adobe Spark to create a collage and then title the picture, but you could use one stock photo for your cover, use just a color and a title, take your own photo(s) for the cover, and so on and so forth- maybe you don’t even need/want a cover image, and that is perfectly fine as well!
Another little extra thing you can do is add little subpages to your website. You’ll have your main web pages such as contact, about us, and the obvious blog page itself, but what about adding a list of achievements, your founding story, etc.? T.C. Arc and I love creating these fun side pages that make us stand out, and that y’all seem to enjoy- it also gives Readers an insight into what we do and stand for.
Last on this list of little add ons is the analytics. If you have Google Sites, you can connect your page to Google Analytics and they’ll show you which pages are you most viewed, where your views are coming from (country, state, etc.), and the devices people use to view your site (tablet, computer, phone). I can’t offer any insight for non-Google analytics pages because I’ve never used them but I can only assume the do a similar job with just differently formatted viewing, and maybe some other special features.
That’s all for behind the scenes Readers! I hope it’s helpful! Feel free to message me if you are ever curious about something in blogging that I haven’t mentioned :).
And now for the word of the week! Now that we are in February, we have a new theme! The theme for this month is ‘love’ (because Valentines day, yay!). Our first word with this new theme is:
Word of the Week: Meraki
Pronunciation: May-rah-key
Definition: A word used to describe doing something with your whole soul, or putting part of yourself into something you do
History and Etymology: Greek word, not derived from anything else
Example: I always adore eating Celine’s food because I know every meal is made with an abundance of meraki
That is all for this week, so I hope you have a lovely weekend! I’ll see you on the author side!
P.S. Today is my favorite artists, Taehyun of Tomorrow X Together's birthday! Happy birthday to him haha. <3
