The harsh reality is that being an author is not a very stable job. Even if you write the most amazing book ever, if you don’t have the proper connections, your book won’t make it very far. And even if you do have the right connections, there’s no saying that all your books will do very well. So to sum it all up, being an author is just a big game of chance. Because of that, authors should ALWAYS have another job that they are working. That way, should something bad happen or your books don’t do well in the beginning, you have another job that allows you to support yourself and not go into debt.

I’m with you all on the idea that I want my main career to be writing, but I also have other careers that I want to pursue, and that I should pursue, that way I can support myself when I move out. Now I personally am very drawn to media type careers. I love acting, singing, writing, and all that. (T.C. also loves singing and we are actually thinking about expanding Silver Arc to a youtube channel where we can give advice over videos as well as do song covers. This isn’t cannon but fingers crossed we can get to that point!) So currently, I am working on starting a career in singing and acting (and by currently I mean i just convinced my parents hahah. But I’ll probably start doing auditions and all that within a few months and before the end of the year). At the moment, I am writing a song that I hope to have produced by the end of June.

Obviously there is only so much I can do as a teen for a ‘side job’ other than writing. But as an adult, there are more legitimate careers you can do that will support you. No matter what you choose, always make sure you have a side job when becoming an author, that way you never get into a tough spot.
